This is how we’re going to legally get out the vote:

ICYMI: CA GOP actually admits to their dirty tricks this time.

California Democratic Party Logo

The Washington Post: Caifornia GOP installed unofficial ballot drop-off boxes. State officials say theyre illegal. Donate to legally get out the vote >>

If you’ve seen these green metal containers in your community, will you give us a call. The number is (877) 321-VOTE (8683). These unofficial boxes are misleading to voters, a misrepresentation of official drop boxes, and most importantly: illegal.

Tweet including a photo of a young man with ballot standing in front of a drop box.

FUND LEGAL VOTER OUTREACHThese kinds of Republican dirty tricks are exactly why we’re aggressively expanding our Voter Protection Team and our Vote 2020 Truth Squad. If you’re looking to contribute towards those efforts, every $8 funds a volunteer shift working the phones for 1 hour.

Grassroots donations make the difference for Democrats fighting to turnout voters.
If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.

DONATE $8Thankfully, we’re helmed by responsible leaders like Rusty Hicks that recognize Republicans are well versed in making it harder, not easier for Californians to vote. Everyone here remains committed to ensuring that all registered voters have full, fair, and equal access to the ballot box.

Unlike Republicans in Orange County, Rusty recently voted at a VALID, official dropbox in Los Angeles County:

While we’re pleasantly surprised that the California GOP admitted to their election crime, we still have our eyes on the prize: legally getting out the vote. We have 19 days in front of us and 300 more Voter Protection Team shifts to fill and fund. Can you help us make it happen?

Central Valley Dream Scholarship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 15, 2020

Children of Farmworkers Receive $80,000 in Scholarships From Senator Melissa Hurtado’s New “Central Valley Dream Scholarship Program”

McFarland, CA — Today, State Senator Melissa Hurtado launched the new “Central Valley Dream Scholarship Program” by awarding 80 scholarships to students from across the Southern Central Valley. The scholarships are dedicated to children of Central Valley farmworkers and each recipient received $1,000 for the 2020-2021 school year.

“Barriers to educational opportunity remain unacceptably high in the Central Valley and we have a lot of work ahead to provide greater access, support and financial assistance to our students,” said Senator Melissa Hurtado, D-Sanger.  “We created the Central Valley Dream Scholarship program to help address systemic inequities and invest in young lives.  We want to make the American Dream or ‘El Sueno Americano’ possible for all of our students and it starts with education.”

The need for educational support in the Central Valley is staggering.  Only 9% of students from the Southern Central Valley obtain a bachelor’s degree. Statistics for high school graduation rates are also unacceptable with more than 40% of residents failing to obtain their high school diploma or GED.

“The California Farmworker Foundation believes education is the gateway to a free, healthy, fair and prosperous society,” said Hernan Hernandez, Executive Director for the California Farmworker Foundation. “That’s why we support Senator Melissa Hurtado’s Central Valley Dream Scholarship Program. This unique scholarship will help Central Valley students continue their education during these critical and challenging times.”

“The California Citrus Mutual is honored to be able to support the Central Valley Dream Scholarship. Our citrus growers recognize the obstacles many students face in our rural communities and understand that education will lead to additional opportunities for them, their families, and our communities.  We appreciate the strong leadership of the California Farmworker Foundation and Senator Hurtado for helping to make more dreams possible.”

The scholarship presentation ceremony took place at the Hacienda Ranch in McFarland, California. The event was a communitywide effort by the California Farmworker Foundation, labor unions, agricultural business leaders and generous donors who want to help the children of farmworkers get an equal shot at the American Dream.

Two of the donors are actually high-school students themselves.  Izabella Ciello Vasquez and Anuar Powell-Gonzalez II are the grandchildren of the Hacienda AG Company founder, and they worked in the summer fields to earn money and donate it to the scholarship fund.

In a statement, Izabella Ciello Vasquez and Anuar Powell-Gonzalez said, “Being the grandchildren of farm laborer immigrants, we grew up hearing stories from our grandparents and their struggles to reach “El Sueno Americano,” but the one thing that was instilled in us is not to forget our roots and why we are able to live the American Dream.”

Senator Melissa Hurtado continued, “The stories of students across my Senate District inspired me and emphasized the need to do more to invest in the future of our Valley. Stories like that of Abraham who recalled his summer experiences working with his father in 109 degrees and realizing from his father’s hopeful eyes what it meant to cherish that work ethic and to persist when all options seem exhausted – to create the American Dream.

“Or like the story of Yesenia, the daughter of immigrant parents from El Salvador who described her passion for agriculture derived from those sacrifices her parents made and making sure their sacrifices were not in vain.

“I was also touched by Daniel’s story, a student who is driven to change the culture of meth and gangs in Fresno for the love and well being of his younger sisters.”

The scholarships were made possible by:

Kern, Inyo, & Mono Building Trades

Senator Melissa Hurtado was first elected to the California State Senate in 2018, flipping the 14th Senate District from red to blue. The daughter of immigrant parents and the first in her family to graduate from college, Hurtado is the youngest woman ever elected to the State Senate and has fought for all families to have access to healthcare, quality schools, good paying jobs and the opportunity for a better life.

2020 CADEM Voter Protection Team – Sign Up to be a remote Voter Protection Hotline Volunteer!

[ditty_news_ticker id=”53436″]

Hello California Democrats!

Since 1992, the California Democratic Party (CADEM) has been protecting the rights of all voters and ensuring that every vote counts through our Voter Protection Program.

For this year’s election, we have redeveloped our statewide Voter Protection Team to make sure that you have the proper resources and that we work together to turn out and protect voters in all corners of our state..

To that end, we are launching the 2020 CADEM Voter Protection Team (VPT) to:

·  Assist voters with voting-related questions,

·  Report, investigate, and troubleshoot election-related issues with our network of volunteer attorneys and election officials, and

·  Provide voter protection resources and training to Democratic campaigns, County Central Committees, clubs/organizations and activists, and allied/partnered organizations.

Voter Protection Team Hotline Volunteers: (877) 321-VOTE (8683)

We are currently recruiting volunteers to assist with staffing our remote Voter Protection Hotline 877-321-VOTE (8683). Volunteers will answer voter calls through a call center mobile app from October 16, 2020, until the polls close on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Volunteers will sign up for available shifts and work with CADEM staff to assist with incoming voting-related questions from voters.

Volunteers will also be tasked with Election Day troubleshooting intake from callers by completing and reporting incidents or issues to our team of lawyers in the field across the state. No prior experience is required.

If voters have any questions or encounter issues with voting, or if your campaign/organization encounters issues relating to elections and voting, please contact our Voter Protection Team Hotline, which is operational from mid-October through Election Day until the polls close!

Additionally, bilingual volunteer operators are needed in Spanish, Mandarin, Hmong, Cantonese, and Tagalog but all languages are welcome! The goal of the Hotline is to be helpful to every single voter who calls 1-877-321-VOTE (8683).

If you or anyone you know is interested and would like to sign up to be part of our VPT as a hotline volunteer, please click here to complete our CDP VPT Volunteer Sign-up Form
